World Religions Study Series

The Presbyterian Church of Pittsburg will present a study series on World Religions. The class will be a combination of notable speakers on different religions and also having time for discussion. The event will begin at 5:45 p.m. each Wednesday with a meal in the Leffler Life Center. The program will begin at 6:30 in the church parlor.

Dr. Stephen Teller, Professor of English at PSU will be the speaker on February 14. Dr. Teller will speak about Judaism. He will tell of the religious and cultural traditions that make up modern day Judaism.

February 21 will be a special Ash Wednesday Service led by Rev. K.O. Noonoo.

On February 28, Dr. Steve Harmon, Asst. Prof. of History at PSU, will be lecturing on Islam and Christianity, Common Ground. Steve has lived and worked in North Africa and has written several papers and given lectures on Islam. He specializes in explaining Islam to western audiences.

On March 9, Dr. Don Viney, University Professor of Philosophy at PSU will speak on Buddhism. Dr. Viney has studied many Eastern Religions in his profession as a philosophy teacher. He teaches a very popular class at PSU on World Religions and brings a comparative perspective to his discussion of Buddhism and other Eastern Religions.

A wrap up and discussion on what was presented and how to promote healthy dialog will be led by Chuck Olcese on March 14.
