Spring Break Mission Trip

The Senior High Youth Group is going to St. Louis on a mission trip March 20-23. They will be helping at an infant loss center where they will have varying tasks, some physical (cleaning, painting, etc.) and some clerical.

If you are a high schooler or know a high schooler who would like to get involved, contact High School Ministry Coordinator Cory Martin at 231-2920 ASAP. College students are also invited to go on the mission trip. Adult sponsors are also needed.

On Sunday, March 4, immediately following worship, the Youth will be hosting a Spaghetti Dinner to raise funds for their Mission Trip. Come learn more about this mission project and enjoy a wonderful dinner! The cost of the meal is a love gift, so please give generously.

Ash Wednesday Service

The Presbyterian Church of Pittsburg will have a special Ash Wednesday Service on Wednesday, February 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Hagman Chapel. Dinner will be served at 5:45 p.m. in the Leffler Life Center. Rev. K.O. Noonoo will bring the meditation and there will be special music. There will be the Imposition of Ashes and the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

All are invited to attend.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lent-Easter Season. Lent is the forty days prior to Easter, Sundays not included. This is a time set aside for taking a good look at ourselves, recognizing our sin and making changes to become more what God created us to be.

World Religions Study Series

The Presbyterian Church of Pittsburg will present a study series on World Religions. The class will be a combination of notable speakers on different religions and also having time for discussion. The event will begin at 5:45 p.m. each Wednesday with a meal in the Leffler Life Center. The program will begin at 6:30 in the church parlor.

Dr. Stephen Teller, Professor of English at PSU will be the speaker on February 14. Dr. Teller will speak about Judaism. He will tell of the religious and cultural traditions that make up modern day Judaism.

February 21 will be a special Ash Wednesday Service led by Rev. K.O. Noonoo.

On February 28, Dr. Steve Harmon, Asst. Prof. of History at PSU, will be lecturing on Islam and Christianity, Common Ground. Steve has lived and worked in North Africa and has written several papers and given lectures on Islam. He specializes in explaining Islam to western audiences.

On March 9, Dr. Don Viney, University Professor of Philosophy at PSU will speak on Buddhism. Dr. Viney has studied many Eastern Religions in his profession as a philosophy teacher. He teaches a very popular class at PSU on World Religions and brings a comparative perspective to his discussion of Buddhism and other Eastern Religions.

A wrap up and discussion on what was presented and how to promote healthy dialog will be led by Chuck Olcese on March 14.
